SAN ANTONIO - Anyone who lives in or has traveled through New Braunfels knows Comal County is in the midst of a population explosion. The numbers back that up. Comal County grew by 5. 4 percent last year. That puts the county second in the nation for percentage growth. The latest census figures peg Comal County's population at just over 148,000 people, up from about 140,000 a year ago. "This place has just exploded," said long-time New Braunfels resident Jimmy Cook.
